The ”Attention Detention” project aims to alleviate the lack of information that LGBTQI youth people at the Migration Board repositories have concerning their rights. The programme purpose is to contribute to the improvement of their legal security during the asylum process, and thus, for a good mental and physical wealth. LGBTQI young refugee’s situation especially complicated, as they decline to speak about their sexual or gender identity and face the risk of being rejected and, thus, taken into custody.
Through a rights-based perspective, the project contemplates as a main activity the visit of refugee centers, for which volunteers with LGBTQI knowledge will be recruited and who will contribute to the program by listening, giving support, advice and information about their rights.
Afterwards, with the results obtained a report will be made, whose results we hope will influence the improvement of the asylum system. Likewise, we will send this document to the European Union and internationally to promote the defense of an asylum system at governmental level. This project will raise the lives, voices and stories of young LGBTQI people from the Migration Board’s repository.
